Assyrtiko - Domaine Paterianakis - 2023

Domaine Paterianakis is a certified organic family estate in Melesses, central Crete, a short drive from the Minoan palace at Knossos. This 2023 is 100% Assyrtiko grown on Crete rather than its native Santorini, fermented in stainless steel and rested five months on the lees. Mountain vineyards give Cretan Assyrtiko herb and wildflower lift over the grape's signature steel and salt. Sharp, saline, sunny. The bottle for anyone who thinks Greek white stops at retsina.

Brilliant pale yellow with green glints. Lemon, green apple, dried mountain herbs, and wildflowers. Taut and mineral on the palate, bright acidity, and a saline snap on the finish.

Grilled octopus, fried calamari with lemon, feta and tomato anything, lemony roast chicken.

A family-run organic estate in the hills near Heraklion. The Assyrtiko is PGI Crete fruit, stainless fermented, five months on lees, then cellared six months before release. Salveto Imports brings it in.
