Nahe Riesling from Weingut Prinz Salm at Schloss Wallhausen, bottled feinherb — just off-dry — at a featherweight 11% alcohol. Two Princes is the estate's entry-level VDP bottling, and it's the Riesling to hand anyone who swears they don't like Riesling. The touch of sweetness isn't sugar for sugar's sake; it's ballast for all that fresh acidity, and the reason this bottle beats nearly everything else at the takeout table.

Green apple, passion fruit and pear on an intense, fruity nose, then a juicy palate where lively, fresh acidity keeps the touch of sweetness honest. The finish hangs around longer than the price says it should.
