Cobb Riesling 2023

Ross Cobb built his name on cool-climate Pinot Noir from the West Sonoma Coast, and this is his Riesling side project. The fruit comes from Cole Ranch, a quarter-square-mile valley between Boonville and Ukiah in Mendocino County that is both a single vineyard and the smallest AVA in America. Bone dry, light on its feet, strung on electric acidity. California Riesling is a hard sell across the counter. This is the bottle that ends the argument.

Dry, light-bodied and textural, all citrus and freshness. Tangy acidity gives it real snap, and the finish is long, juicy and mouthwatering.

Thai takeout, raw oysters, schnitzel, anything with lime and heat in it.

Cobb is a family winery farming three estate vineyards on the western Sonoma Coast, focused on Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and small lots of Riesling from Mendocino and Sonoma sites. Cole Ranch holds its own one-vineyard AVA.
