Cousino-Macul - Isidora - Sauvignon Gris - 2023
$25.99
Isidora is named for Isidora Goyenechea, the 19th-century businesswoman who ran Cousiño Macul and helped modernize Chilean winemaking when few women ran anything in the industry. The Sauvignon Gris vines themselves trace back to cuttings brought from Graves, in Bordeaux, decades ago, planted in Macul's Maipo Valley vineyards since the 1980s. It's an easy, food-friendly white with more personality than most bargain Sauvignon Blanc, styled fresh and unoaked. Pour it before dinner or straight through a plate of ceviche.
Greenish-yellow with pineapple, grapefruit and apricot on the nose, chamomile and floral notes underneath. High acidity, good volume, and a persistent, pleasant finish.
Excellent with ceviche, shrimp, salmon carpaccio, or seafood pasta; built as much for sipping solo as for dinner.
Cuttings of Sauvignon Gris came from the Graves region of Bordeaux and were planted in Cousiño Macul's Macul vineyards in the 1980s; over time they've adapted distinctively to the Maipo Valley. The wine is named for founder Isidora Goyenechea, a rare 19th-century female force in Chile's wine trade.
