Emigré Mitravelas Assyrtiko 2024

$31.00

Emigré is Mitravelas Estate's Santorini-meets-Peloponnese white: Assyrtiko transplanted to the family's vineyards in Nemea and Laconia, then blended with 20% Kydonitsa, an old Laconian grape that brings quince and blossom. Part of the Assyrtiko ferments in oak barrels, and the wine rests four to five months on its lees. The 2024 lands at 13% with electric acidity and real texture. PGI Peloponnese, bone dry. Greek night, oyster night, Tuesday night. It works every time.

Unripe citrus, lemon blossom, quince, peach, and a faint bready yeast note. Oily mid-palate weight from the barrel-fermented portion, wide-awake acidity, saline minerality, and a long citrus finish.

Grilled whole branzino, shrimp saganaki, taramasalata, anything off a Greek seafood grill.

Mitravelas farms in Nemea, famous for Agiorgitiko reds, plus a sea-cooled parcel at Vlahiotis in Laconia. The Assyrtiko grows at 330 meters on sandy loam; cold Nemea nights keep the acid sharp. The 2021 vintage took gold at B.I.W.C.F. 2022.
