Gorro comes from Portugal Boutique Winery, and it will reset what you think Vinho Verde is. No spritz, no sugar. This is 100 percent Loureiro from two parcels of roughly 40-year-old vines in the Lima Valley a few kilometers off the Atlantic, one on schist near the river, one higher up on granite. The result is a textured, full-flavored white that still snaps with freshness. Decanter has reviewed it. Beach wine that grew up.

Expressive florals with tangerine and apricot on the nose. Ripe peach and citrus on a palate that is plush yet refreshing, with real texture and a clean finish.

Grilled sardines, garlicky shrimp, salt cod fritters. Anything Portuguese and straight off the grill.

Portugal Boutique Winery is a young project built on small-parcel bottlings. Gorro's two old Loureiro vineyards sit in the Lima Valley about five kilometers from the ocean, on schist-clay and stony granite soils that give the wine its cut.
