Granbazan - Albarino "Ambar" - 2022
$42.99
Granbazán is a reference house of Rías Baixas, farming Albariño in the Salnés Valley a few miles from the Atlantic. Etiqueta Ámbar is the step-up bottling: 100% Albariño, destemmed and cold-soaked eight to ten hours, fermented cool in stainless steel, then left on fine lees with bâtonnage for eight months before bottling. James Suckling gave the 2022 93 points and called the acidity blistering. This is salty, serious Albariño. Buy it for oyster night.
Sea shell, lime, green apple, mirabelle plum, mandarin, a whisper of brioche. Taut and medium bodied, sharp acidity, saline mouthwatering finish.
Raw oysters, grilled octopus with pimentón, ceviche, garlicky shrimp straight from the pan.
Bodegas Granbazán sits in the Salnés Valley, the coolest and most Atlantic subzone of Rías Baixas. Estate fruit gets cold maceration, controlled fermentation at 15 to 17 degrees Celsius, and eight months on fine lees.
