Guntrum H Riesling Dr. Hermann 2023 750ml

The register mangles the name, but the wine is Dr. Hermann 'H' Riesling 2023 from the Mosel. Weingut Dr. Hermann was carved out of the famed Joh. Jos. Christoffel Erben estate in 1967 and is run today by Rudy Hermann and his son Christian, the winemaker since 2001, based in Urzig. 'H' is their entry Riesling from steep slate slopes: lightly off-dry, low alcohol, electric with acidity. One of the smartest by-the-case whites in the shop.
White peach, green apple and lime zest on the nose. Citrus, pear and stone fruit on the palate with floral honey and slate minerality, finishing crisp, zesty and mouthwatering.

The Hermanns farm about 16 acres of steep slate in Erden, Urzig, Losnich and Kinheim, including the famous Erdener Pralat, Erdener Treppchen and Urziger Wurzgarten sites. Many vines are ungrafted and up to 100 years old.
