A half bottle, 375ml, of Alphonse Mellot's flagship Sancerre, the right size for weeknight roast chicken or oysters for two. La Moussière is the domaine's 34-hectare home vineyard, farmed organically and biodynamically, planted on stony marl with south and southwest exposure. Pure Sauvignon Blanc raised seven to eight months on fine lees, which builds a creamy middle over that chalky Sancerre spine. Serious Loire wine in a small format with zero leftover-bottle guilt.
Fine gold with a green sheen. White flowers, nectarine, and citrus. Rich, creamy palate cut by firm acidity, distinct chalky minerality, crisp and tongue-tingling on the finish.
Oysters, crottin de Chavignol, roast chicken with tarragon, seared halibut.
La Moussière is Alphonse Mellot's 34-hectare vineyard in Sancerre, run organically and biodynamically, with vines 4 to 40 years old on stony marl facing south and southwest. The wine spends 7 to 8 months on fine lees before bottling.
