The Chapelle range is Elite Wines' Languedoc collection, and the Chardonnay comes off three hectares on the hillsides of Saint Georges d'Orques, the village outside Montpellier whose wines Thomas Jefferson discovered in 1787. All Chardonnay, hand harvested with selection in the vineyard, a long slow fermentation under temperature control, aged in stainless steel vats. No oak. IGP Oc, and a lot of wine for twenty bucks.
Golden yellow and bright. White peach and tropical fruit on the nose, flowers with air. Fresh on the attack, then it broadens into a plush mid-palate. Long, balanced finish.
Classic matches for Chardonnay: Roast chicken, lobster or crab with butter, corn dishes, soft creamy cheeses.
Three hectares on Miocene soils above Saint Georges d'Orques. Everything is picked by hand with selection at harvest, fermented slowly under temperature control, and held in stainless steel vats. The Chapelle wines are imported exclusively by Elite Wines.
