Lingua Franca "Avni" Chardonnay 2022

Lingua Franca is Master Sommelier Larry Stone's Eola-Amity Hills project, co-founded in 2015 with Burgundy great Dominique Lafon, and Avni is the house style at its friendliest price. Fruit comes off shallow volcanic soils across the Willamette Valley, whole-cluster pressed, wild-yeast fermented in barrel, and aged 11 months sur lie in mostly neutral wood with spontaneous malo. Burgundy manners, Oregon energy. Pour it for the friend who insists domestic Chardonnay can't do tension.
Lemon peel, green apple, white flowers and river stone, with pear and quince underneath. Round yet vibrant palate, mineral through the middle, clean fresh finish.
Dungeness crab cakes, roast chicken, cream-sauced pasta, oysters with mignonette.
Larry Stone bought the estate site in 2012; winemaker Thomas Savre, trained at top Burgundy domaines, oversees organic and regenerative farming. The 2022 draws from the Eola-Amity Hills, Chehalem Mountains, Yamhill-Carlton and a marine-sediment site in the Van Duzer Corridor.
