Moschato Spinas Domaine Paterianaki 2023
$28.00
Moschato Spinas comes from Domaine Paterianakis, an organic and biodynamic estate outside Heraklion, Crete, working with Moschato Spinas, an ultra-rare indigenous grape from western Crete once nicknamed the 'bee grape' because harvest baskets used to draw a crowd of bees. It's a floral, low-alcohol white built for sipping on its own, not pairing against a heavy plate. Pour it as a warm-evening aperitif when you want something genuinely different from the usual Muscat bottle. Note: Square files this under Spain, it's Greek.
Brilliant straw with greenish hues. Intensely floral nose of rose petals, jasmine, violet and spice. Palate turns crisp and vivid: green apple, citrus, sweet muscat fruit, low alcohol, refreshing acidity, easy finish.
Classic matches for a white like this: Seafood, poultry, salads, fresh and soft cheeses.
Moschato Spinas is a rare grape native to western Crete, farmed organically and biodynamically by Domaine Paterianakis outside Heraklion. In antiquity it was called the 'bee grape' for how the fruit's sweet aroma drew bees to the harvest baskets.
