The regular Cakebread Chardonnay made the family famous. The Reserve is the one they keep closer. It comes exclusively from Cakebread's own estate vineyards in Carneros, four sites near San Pablo Bay farmed specifically for this bottling, where fog and cool air stretch the season. The 2023 is the richer expression of the house: poached pear, honeyed flowers and lemon, concentrated and creamy, with Carneros acidity keeping the whole thing standing up straight. Special-dinner Chardonnay.

Poached pear, lemon and honeyed white flowers with baked apple and baking spice. Full and concentrated, creamy through the middle, toasted oak and bright acid carrying a long finish.

Dungeness crab pasta, lobster salad, shrimp and grits. Anything that involves shellfish and butter.

Jack and Dolores Cakebread founded the winery in Rutherford in 1973 and it remains family-owned and sustainably farmed. The Reserve draws only on estate-owned Carneros vineyards at Napa's southern edge, four sites farmed to make opulent, long-lived Chardonnay.
