Oxford Landing Sun Chasing Pinot Grigio 2022 750ml
$16.00
Oxford Landing sits on the Murray River in South Australia's Riverland, planted in 1958 by Wyndham Hill-Smith of the Yalumba family. The Riverlife Sun Chasing bottling is the interesting one. Fermented entirely with indigenous yeast, then three months on lees with weekly stirring, which is why it has weight and cream instead of the thin Pinot Grigio you expect at this price. Vegan, 12.5 percent. Andrew La Nauze made it.
Pale straw. Custard apple, poached pear and freshly baked apple pie. Weighty texture for the grape, flavors of baked apple, a creamy finish with soft acidity.
Lemon herb chicken, mushroom and thyme risotto, grilled asparagus. It has enough texture for creamy dishes that usually kill Pinot Grigio.
The name comes from a paddle steamer called the City of Oxford that burned on the riverbank. Wyndham Hill-Smith and viticulturist Norman Hanckel picked the site for its soil. Part of the vineyard is now certified organic and biodynamic.
