Poggio le Volpi Frascati Superiore People
$25.00
People is Poggio le Volpi's flagship Frascati Superiore, from a winery built in 1996 on the volcanic soils of Monte Porzio Catone, in the hills above Rome where Frascati has been made since Roman times. It's Frascati's classic Malvasia-Trebbiano style, fermented for freshness rather than weight. This is what Frascati is supposed to taste like before mass-market versions flattened the category's reputation. Easy porch wine, better restaurant wine than its price suggests.
Bright, pale straw yellow with pear, green apple, elderflower, grass and white flowers on the nose. Fresh and savory on the palate, medium-plus body, with a long, fruity, elegant finish.
Classic matches for a white like this: Seafood, poultry, salads, fresh and soft cheeses.
Poggio le Volpi was founded in 1996 by the Mergé family in Monte Porzio Catone, in the volcanic Alban Hills southeast of Rome. The estate leans on the grapes historically grown around Frascati: Malvasia di Candia, Malvasia del Lazio, Malvasia Puntinata and Trebbiano, on tuff and lava-rock soils from the old Latium volcano.
