Second Line Wines - 'L'Acadiane' - Albarino - 2021

Second Line Wines is Chris Agan and Patrice Whelan's husband-and-wife label, Napa wines with a New Orleans spirit, started in 2017. L'Acadiane honors Louisiana's original French settlers: 100% Albariño from Las Brisas Vineyard in Sonoma's Carneros, fermented on native yeasts and aged eight months on the lees in stainless steel. Bonfort's scored it 95 and called it equal to the finest Albariño of Spain or Portugal. Racy, saline, seriously refreshing. The bottle for oyster night.

Grapefruit, honeydew melon and nectarine with lemon zest and river rocks. Bright acidity, a rich lees-fed midpalate, light body, slightly saline snap on the finish.

Raw oysters, shrimp po'boys, ceviche, or a proper Friday fish fry.

Las Brisas Vineyard sits in the Los Carneros end of Sonoma. Native-yeast fermentation and eight months sur lie in stainless keep it taut. Silver medal at the 2022 Orange County Fair commercial wine competition.
