Stonestreet grows Chardonnay where most of Alexander Valley grows Cabernet: up on the Alexander Mountain Estate, the same property behind the cult Upper Barn bottling. The 2020 Estate Chardonnay spent 10 months in 35% new French oak, and the mountain fruit shows in its tension. Wine Advocate gave it 92 points, Jeb Dunnuck 91. Rich, mineral, and serious. For the Sonoma Chardonnay drinker ready to graduate from the valley floor.
Pear, crusty brioche and ginger flower on the nose. Honeydew, caramelized green apple and a flinty mineral streak on a dense, mouth-coating palate held together by lively acidity.
Roast chicken with pan drippings, crab cakes, lobster mac. It has the weight for cream sauces.
Fruit comes from Stonestreet's estate vineyards on the Alexander Mountain Estate in Alexander Valley, the mountain site that also yields the single-vineyard Upper Barn Chardonnay prized by collectors.
