Stonestreet Estate - Upper Barn Vineyard - Chardonnay - 2018

Upper Barn is Stonestreet's flagship Chardonnay, from a single high-elevation block the estate hangs its reputation on. The 2018 spent ten months in French oak, 46 percent new, and the vintage gave it a rounded, supple shape with real depth underneath. Rich stone fruit up front, chalk and nerve behind it. This is for the Burgundy drinker who wants California generosity, and the California drinker ready for structure. It rewards a few more years in the cellar too.

Ripe peach and fresh ginger on the nose. Stone fruit, cashew, honey and crushed-stone minerality on a palate that is opulent yet taut. Finishes long, chalky and mouthwatering.

Classic matches for Chardonnay: Roast chicken, lobster or crab with butter, corn dishes, soft creamy cheeses.

Upper Barn sits at 1,800 feet on Stonestreet's mountain estate above Alexander Valley. The altitude puts vines in full sun while cool ocean breezes and varied rocky soils hold power and tension in the fruit.
