Willowcroft Albariño Reserve 750ml
$30.00
Albarino from Loudoun County, and it genuinely works. Willowcroft, the county's oldest winery, planted a half acre of this Spanish seafood grape on Catoctin Ridge back in 2008, and the Reserve is the serious version: fully dry, with around nine months in oak for extra weight and texture. Virginia Albarino is still rare. Local Albarino with barrel age is rarer. This is our neighbor up the ridge in Leesburg. Grab it before their wine club does.
White pepper and spice on the nose, then pineapple and stone fruit. Full bodied for Albarino, with a mineral streak running straight through the finish.
Roast chicken and vegetables is the winery's own call. We'd put it next to steamed shrimp with Old Bay.
Lew Parker opened Willowcroft in 1984 above Leesburg, the first winery in Loudoun County. Everything is grown in Virginia, and the Albarino block dates to 2008, a half acre planted high on Catoctin Ridge.
