Feudi di San Gregorio - Falanghina - 2022

$21.00

Feudi di San Gregorio was founded in 1986 by two Irpinia families and is now the largest family-owned winery in Southern Italy, run by the Capaldo family out of Sorbo Serpico in Avellino province. The Falanghina comes off volcanic, sandstone and lime-rich marl soils in the Campanian hills, the same terroir that gives the estate's Fiano and Greco their mineral edge. It's a bright, easy, food-friendly white for anyone who wants Italian white wine that isn't Pinot Grigio.

Straw yellow with green reflections. Green apple, white peach and citrus blossom on the nose, with wet stone and wild herb underneath. Light-bodied and zesty, crisp minerality, a touch of almond, bitter orange peel finish.

Aperitivo hour, simple grilled fish, fresh mozzarella and other soft cheeses.

Feudi di San Gregorio farms roughly 300 hectares in Irpinia, the hilly, rain-fed heart of inland Campania. The volcanic, sandstone and lime-rich marl soils there are known for giving local whites their mineral, herbal lift. The current winery, an architecturally striking facility, opened in 2004.
