Allegrini Lugana Oasi - Mantellina - 2022

Allegrini built its name on Amarone in Valpolicella. Oasi Mantellina is the family's newer estate on Lake Garda's southern shore, and this Lugana is its calling card. Turbiana with a touch of Cortese, soft-pressed, aged about four months in stainless steel and two in bottle. The 2022 took 91 points from James Suckling and Falstaff and 95 from Luca Maroni. Crisp, peachy, quietly rich. Sancerre money buys a lot less wine than this does.

Pale straw. White peach, lemon zest, orange blossom, and white flowers. Mixed citrus and green almond on the palate, tart apricot, marked acidity, and a bright, fruity finish.

Lake Garda logic: grilled trout, fritto misto, lemony risotto, or chicken piccata.

Oasi Mantellina is the Allegrini family's vineyard venture in the Lugana DOC on Lake Garda, hand-harvested in September and treated as their white flagship outside Valpolicella, where they have farmed for generations.
