Amistà Nizza D.O.C.G - 2020
$30.00
Nizza DOCG is Barbera at the top of its game, and Amista farms the heart of the zone, the Bricco di Nizza subzone above Nizza Monferrato. The 2020 is 100% Barbera aged about twelve months, mostly in large cask with some tonneaux and barrique, then held six to eight months longer in bottle than the rules require. James Suckling gave it 93 points. Chalky-soil Barbera with structure and genuine aging potential. Built for braise season.
Spicy, chocolatey nose with blackberry, dark fruit, walnut, and licorice, plus a balsamic note. Medium to full bodied, broad and well shaped, compact velvety tannins, good concentration, lingering finish.
Classic matches for a red like this: Grilled and roasted meats, hearty pastas, aged cheeses.
Vineyards sit in the Bricco di Nizza subzone, planted largely on chalk soils in the appellation's best growing area. Aging runs roughly twelve months, mostly large cask with a portion in tonneaux and barrique, plus extended bottle age beyond DOCG requirements.
