This is Andis 'Painted Fields' Sierra Cotes, the Rhone blend from Andis Wines in Plymouth, Amador County. Andy Friedlander and Janis Akuna founded the winery in 2009 and mashed their first names together for the label. The current 2022 release is 40% Syrah, 30% Grenache and 30% Mourvedre, made with consulting help from Philippe Melka's Atelier Melka team. It pulled 91 points from both James Suckling and Wine Enthusiast. Sierra Foothills GSM at this price is quietly one of California's best deals.

Blackberry, raspberry and plum layered with cracked pepper, lavender and smoked herbs. Juicy red and dark fruit on the palate, a savory olive streak, supple tannins, fresh acidity, and a smooth, earthy finish.

Grilled lamb skewers, herb-roasted chicken, ratatouille, or sausages straight off the grill.

Andis sits on Shenandoah Road in the California Shenandoah Valley AVA of Amador County, on a property with Zinfandel plantings dating to 1978. Mark Fowler runs the cellar day to day, with Philippe Melka and Maayan Koschitzky consulting.
