Merlot from the top of Howell Mountain. Bravante Vineyards grows this on its estate high above the Napa Valley floor and blends in 10% Cabernet Sauvignon for spine. Back Room Wines in Napa called the 2018 the best Merlot they tasted from the vintage, and we get it. Mountain Merlot trades softness for structure and gets prettier for the trade. Big, rich and plush, yet it moves with quiet elegance. For the Merlot loyalist, and the Cab drinker who needs converting.

Roses, violets, Damson plum and blueberry aromatics. Blackberries, plums, raw cocoa and mountain herbs on a well-structured palate. Big, rich and plush, finishing with quiet strength.

Roast pork shoulder, veal chops, or a mushroom and gruyere burger.

Bravante farms estate vineyards on Howell Mountain; this 2018 is estate-grown Merlot rounded out with 10% Cabernet Sauvignon.
