Broccardo Barolo I Tre Pais 2020
$63.00
Barolo that names its recipe. I Tre Pais means the three villages, and Broccardo blends Nebbiolo from vineyards in Monforte d'Alba, Barolo and Novello, average vine age around 30 years. The family runs its cellar in Monforte and ages this about 24 months in French and Slavonian oak casks up to 60 hectoliters. It is the approachable bottle in their lineup, made to drink on release. James Suckling and Wine Enthusiast both landed at 93 points. Real value in the 60-dollar Barolo tier.
Red cherry, currant, rose hip and citrus peel, with tea leaf, clove and undergrowth beneath. Medium bodied and racy. Lightly chewy tannins, fresh and harmonious through the finish.
The house suggests stuffed pigeon. We suggest braised beef, mushroom risotto and a wedge of well-aged cheese.
Agricola Fratelli Broccardo farms south and southwest-facing Nebbiolo at around 350 meters on sandy, clay and silty soils across the three communes. Fermentation runs about 20 days on the skins at 28C, malolactic in steel each November.
