Capanna - Brunello di Montalcino - 2020

The Cencioni family has farmed Capanna since 1957 on Montosoli, the fabled hill north of Montalcino prized for mineral-rich clay soils and big day-night temperature swings. Their Brunello is 100% Sangiovese from the estate's oldest vineyards, fermented with 25 to 30 days of skin maceration in Slavonian oak vats, aged around three years in Slavonian oak casks and rested six months in bottle. Traditional Brunello from a hill collectors know by name, priced like they don't.

Deep ruby edged with garnet. Red fruit, plum and dried flowers with violet, lavender, vanilla and a hint of sandalwood. Full bodied and dense, firm tannic structure, very persistent finish.

Roast red meats, game and aged cheeses. This is a Sunday-table wine; give it pappardelle with wild boar ragu.

All Capanna vineyards lie within 2 km of the cellar in the Montosoli zone north of Montalcino. Aging runs 30 to 36 months in Slavonian oak casks of 10 to 32 hectoliters; release comes in January of the fifth year after harvest.
