Casa E. di Mirafiore was founded in 1878 by Emanuele Alberto Guerrieri, Count of Mirafiore and son of Italy's first king. Today it is Fontanafredda's historic sister estate in Serralunga d'Alba, farmed organic since 2018. The 2019 Barolo is the classicist's bottle: Nebbiolo fermented in steel, held 30 to 40 days on the skins, then aged two years in big oak casks of 2,000 to 14,000 liters. 2019 is a structured, age-worthy vintage. Royal Serralunga pedigree at village Barolo money.
Garnet with ruby glints. Dried rose, nutmeg, black pepper, bay leaf and ripe red fruit. Full bodied and velvety, powerful harmonious tannins, marked acidity, very long finish.
Braised short ribs, tajarin with butter and sage, aged alpine cheese.
The estate anchors the historic Fontanafredda village in Serralunga d'Alba, where Europe's first concrete fermentation vats went in back in 1887 and Barolo Mirafiore was shipping worldwide by 1890. Holdings across the Barolo and Fontanafredda subzones have been organic since 2018.
