Cass farms its own vineyard on the warm east side of Paso Robles, and Vintage Ted sits at the top of its lineup. The 2020 runs 67% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Mourvèdre and 8% Petit Verdot, a blend you will not find in Napa. The Mourvèdre earns its keep, threading a wild, savory streak through all that dark Cabernet fruit. Wine Enthusiast called it a great table wine for everything from barbecue to pasta night, and they are right. Serious Paso red that refuses to be stuffy.
Red currant, graphite and moss on the nose. The palate is herb-laced and alive, blackberry stew threaded with oregano, savory Mourvèdre spice, and firm Cabernet structure holding it all together.
Barbecue is the move: smoked brisket, grilled tri-tip, lamb burgers. It also handles a red-sauce pasta night without blinking.
