The Catena family put Argentine Malbec on the world map, and the Adrianna Vineyard in Gualtallary is their grand cru. River comes from a stony parcel beside the vineyard's dry riverbed, fermented whole-cluster and aged 18 months in large oak casks. Wine Advocate gave the 2019 a near-perfect 99 points. At 13.8 percent alcohol it is Malbec turned inside out: floral, stony and precise instead of big and jammy.
Violets, blackberries, black olive and wet stone. Full-bodied yet fresh, with abundant, very fine ripe tannins and a chalky mineral finish.

Adrianna sits at high altitude in Gualtallary, Mendoza. The River parcel is strewn with rounded stones from the old riverbed, which give the wine its mineral spine; whole-cluster fermentation and 18 months in large casks keep it precise.
