Cedar Knoll takes its name from the historic Cedar Knoll Vineyard Co. on the Palmaz family's Napa estate, and it is made in the same 18-story gravity-flow cave as their flagship Cabernet. The 2016 is distinctively smooth and elegant, with restrained deep, dark fruit that unfolds into what the winery rightly calls a marathon finish. This is the 1.5-liter magnum, which means slower, more graceful aging and a bottle that owns the table. Bring it to the dinner party and skip the flowers.
Concentrated cherry and blackberry with cedar, chocolate and a hint of oak smoke. Full-bodied, mid-to-high acidity, well-integrated chewy tannins, and a long finish carrying a subtle dusty note.
