Chappellet planted Pritchard Hill before Pritchard Hill was famous, and the Cabernet Franc is the insider's bottle in the lineup. The 2022 is 76 percent Cab Franc rounded out with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, grown in the hill's volcanic soils from vines first planted in 1989, then aged 22 months in French oak, 60 percent new. Longtime winemaker Phillip Corallo-Titus keeps it graceful rather than heavy. Napa Cab Franc with real varietal character, not Cab in a costume.
Cedar, graphite, wild sage, black tea and rose petal. Velvety texture and seamless tannins around black cherry, anise and white pepper. Fresh acidity, long earthy finish.

The Chappellet family has farmed Pritchard Hill above the eastern Napa Valley since 1967. The 2022 season brought generous winter rain, a mild summer and a Labor Day heat spike; harvest ran September 16 to October 20, picked block by block.
