Chateau Canon - ‘Croix Canon’ - Saint-Emilion Grand Cru - 2016
$95.00
The second wine of Chateau Canon, the Premier Grand Cru Classe estate of Saint-Emilion, from the celebrated 2016 vintage. The blend is 76% Merlot and 24% Cabernet Franc, drawn from the 11 hectares of plots around the chapel of Mazerat plus young hillside vines, raised 18 months in French oak with a small share of new barrels. James Suckling scored it 94. Grand cru pedigree with a decade of bottle age, at a price the grand vin left behind years ago.
Precise blackcurrant and blueberry with subtle mineral aromas that build in the glass. Medium-bodied and tensile, crisp tannin, graphite and tobacco, a supple and refined finish.
Roast duck, mushroom-heavy anything, beef bourguignon on a slow Sunday. Right Bank wines love the table.
Chateau Canon spans 34 hectares in Saint-Emilion, ranked Premier Grand Cru Classe. Croix Canon comes from the vineyard surrounding the chapel of Mazerat along with younger vines from the Saint-Emilion hillside.
