Chateau Clos Junet - Saint-Émilion Grand Cru - 2019

Clos Junet is a three-hectare family plot just west of the town of Saint-Émilion, planted 65% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc and 5% Malbec on limestone, chalk, sand and clay. The wine ferments in stainless steel, runs malolactic in barrel, and ages about 15 months in roughly half new French oak. 2019 was an excellent Right Bank vintage and counts among this property's best. Small-château Saint-Émilion Grand Cru from a great year, drinking beautifully now and good through the early 2030s.
Ripe plum, cherry and red fruits with cigar wrapper, thyme, coffee bean and underbrush. Deep color, silky textures, soft fine tannins, and a round, earthy finish.
Duck confit, mushroom-stuffed roast chicken, a rare bavette with shallots.
The tiny 3-hectare vineyard sits just west of Saint-Émilion on limestone, chalk, sand and clay soils. Vinification is in stainless tank with malolactic in barrel, then around 15 months in an average of 50% new French oak before bottling.
