Chateau Musar - Hochar Pere et fils - 2020

Hochar Pere et Fils is Chateau Musar's second wine from Lebanon's Bekaa Valley, and it drinks like a shortcut into one of the world's great cellars. The 2020 blends Cinsault, Grenache and Cabernet Sauvignon from a single vineyard near the village of Aana at 1,000 meters, gravel over limestone, vines averaging 30 years with tiny yields. Classic Musar spice and sun-warmed fruit, only fresher and ready now. This is the bottle to bring when you don't know the menu.
Cherry preserves, clove, orange zest, dates and tea leaf. Medium bodied and savory with black cherry, violet and dark chocolate, supple tannins, warm spice on a slightly chewy finish.
Lamb kofta, mujadara, spiced roast chicken, anything grilled with za'atar.
A single vineyard in the western Bekaa near Aana: deep gravelly soil over a limestone base at 1,000 meters elevation. The vines average 30 years old and yield just 20 to 30 hectoliters per hectare, which concentrates everything.
