Chris Hamilton Cellars is a small Napa label with its wines made at Signorello, and this 2020 proprietary red is a quiet coup: 80% Merlot and 20% Malbec from Yountville and Oakville vineyards, all picked by September 12, before the Glass Fire could touch the vintage. Right-bank Bordeaux thinking, Napa fruit. For the drinker who wants Napa polish without paying the Cabernet tax.

Blueberry, cassis, rose petal, graphite and vanilla on the nose; lavender and dark fruit on a silky, fine-grained palate, finishing with cedar, black pepper and dried tobacco leaf.

Herb-crusted lamb, blue-cheese burgers, pork chops smothered in mushrooms.

Chris Hamilton first visited Napa in 2009 and built the label around small lots from Yountville and Oakville. The wines are produced at Signorello Vineyards, where tastings are hosted on a limited basis.
