Ciacci Piccolomini D'Aragona Sant'Antimo Rosso Ateo 2024
$33.00
Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona is one of Montalcino's headline estates, gifted in 1985 by the heirless Countess Elda Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona to her estate manager Giuseppe Bianchini, whose kids Paolo and Lucia run it today. Ateo is their Sant'Antimo DOC red, half Merlot and half Cabernet Sauvignon grown among the Brunello vines of Castelnuovo dell'Abate and aged 18 months in oak. Brunello pedigree, Bordeaux grapes, everyday price. Buy it for the story. Rebuy it for the juice.
Intense ruby. Black cherry, plum, and cassis with cedar, vanilla, and a vibrant herbal streak. Medium to full body, fleshy fruit, elegant approachable tannins, and a long, lingering finish with a hint of wild Tuscany.
Bistecca off the grill, wild boar ragu over pappardelle, aged pecorino.
The estate holds 35 hectares in the prized Castelnuovo dell'Abate zone near the 12th-century Sant'Antimo abbey, on Eocene marl soils at 240 to 360 meters. Ateo ferments in stainless steel and concrete, then ages 18 months in 3-hectoliter oak barrels.
