Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona is one of Montalcino's respected Brunello houses, and this Toscana Rosso is its everyday red: predominantly Sangiovese Grosso, rounded out with Syrah, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The Sangiovese comes from the estate's youngest plots, the same vineyards earmarked for Rosso di Montalcino and Brunello di Montalcino as they mature. It's fermented in stainless steel and refined in concrete, built for drinking now rather than aging. A great entry point into serious Montalcino winemaking at a fraction of Brunello prices.
Ruby red with ripe cherry, dried rose petal and a whisper of leather and wild herb. Fruity, lightly herbal palate touched with baking spice, full-bodied and soft, finishing warm and earthy.

The Sangiovese Grosso for this Toscana Rosso comes from Ciacci Piccolomini's youngest plots, planted in medium-grain, marl-rich Eocene soil between 240 and 360 meters, the same ground that eventually feeds into the estate's Rosso di Montalcino and Brunello di Montalcino.
