Conti Zecca has farmed Salento since the family moved there from Naples in 1580, and Pope Leo XIII made them Earls in 1884 for their work on the land. The winery dates to 1935 and is still run by Zecca descendants. Cantalupi is one of their four historic estates, and this Riserva is Negroamaro-driven Salice Salentino from that site, built for extended aging and full-bodied Puglian character. A big, brooding southern Italian red for people who think Puglia is just for rosato.

Deep ruby with garnet edges. Black raspberry, allspice and anise on the nose, riper notes of dark chocolate and dried date on the palate, full-bodied with firm, chewy tannins and a persistent, slightly bitter finish.

Cantalupi is one of four historic estates farmed by Conti Zecca, alongside Donna Marzia, Saraceno and Santo Stefano, totaling 320 hectares across Salento. The family has worked this land for nearly five centuries.
