The Guicciardini family has held Castello di Poppiano outside Florence for more than eight centuries, and La Historia is their tribute bottling: 100% Merlot, Toscana IGT, named for ancestor Francesco Guicciardini, who wrote his landmark 'Historia d'Italia' at Poppiano in the 1530s. Fermented in stainless steel, then aged in barriques and big oak casks. Tuscan Merlot with a pedigree most Super Tuscans can't touch. Bring it to a dinner party that has opinions.

Plum and balsamic aromas over a sweet core of dark fruit. Structured but velvety, with mature tannins, real freshness, and a long, intensely aromatic finish.

Porcini pasta, bistecca off the grill, anything roasted. Save the last glass for aged pecorino.

Castello di Poppiano sits in the Montespertoli hills southwest of Florence, the Guicciardini home estate alongside holdings in Chianti Classico and the Maremma. The frontispiece of Francesco Guicciardini's book appears on the label.
