Crosby Roamann Bon Ton Napa Valley Red 2021
$59.00
Sean and Juliana McBride started Crosby Roamann from a Brooklyn apartment in 2006, drove the Volvo west in 2010, and now make small-lot wines in a converted warehouse south of Napa. Bon Ton is their value play: 76% Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot, Syrah and Zinfandel from the excellent 2021 vintage. It leans savory instead of sweet, which is rarer in Napa blends than it should be. Wine Enthusiast scored the two lots 91 and 92.
Deep ruby. Smoked meat, dried sage, violets, lavender and black plum on the nose. Blackberry, mulberry, black currant and cranberry on the palate with crushed pepper and firm tannins.
Braised short ribs, mushroom burgers, lamb rubbed with herbes de Provence.
The label honors grandparents Peachy Crosby and Sally Roamann. Sean apprenticed at White Rock Vineyards and studied at UC Davis; in 2020 the couple bought four acres of their own vines in Napa Carneros.
