Sean and Juliana McBride launched Crosby Roamann from a Brooklyn apartment in 2006, then packed the twins into a Volvo wagon in 2010 and drove west to make wine in Napa for real. The label honors two grandmothers, Peachy Crosby and Sally Roamann. This Petaluma Gap Pinot is a 600-case lot from the wind-scoured Sonoma Coast that Wine Enthusiast scored 93 points with a Cellar Selection nod. Silky, savory, energetic Pinot from people who bet everything on it.

Strawberry, rhubarb and dried cherry with tobacco, mushroom and fresh earth. Dark cocoa and crushed red pepper on the palate, black tea and olive tapenade on the finish. Silky, nearly full-bodied.

Duck breast, mushroom risotto, cedar-plank salmon, roast pork shoulder.

Sean McBride learned winemaking at White Rock Vineyards and with Robert Mondavi Jr. while studying viticulture and enology at UC Davis. The couple converted an old warehouse south of Napa into their winery in 2014 and bought a small Carneros vineyard in 2020.
