Vaso is the way into Dana Estates, the Napa house behind some of the valley's most sought-after single-vineyard Cabernets. The 2019 blends 95% Cabernet Sauvignon with dashes of Petit Verdot, Merlot, Malbec and Cabernet Franc, its core from the estate's Hershey Vineyard on Howell Mountain plus Lotus and the historic Helms Vineyard in western Rutherford. Aged 22 months in French oak, just 12% new, so the fruit does the talking. James Suckling gave it 95 points. Serious pedigree, everyday polish.
Blackberry compote and spiced plum with toasty almonds, baked strawberries and savory herbs. Plush entry, round, well-integrated tannins, low oak imprint, a silky feel and a creamy milk chocolate finish.
Classic matches for Cabernet Sauvignon: Ribeye off the grill, lamb chops, aged cheddar, a rainy night and a good movie.
