Davis Estates' Napa Valley Cabernet is proof of what the 2018 vintage did right. The blend is 77% Cabernet Sauvignon with 22% Merlot and a point of Petit Verdot, aged 22 months in half-new French oak. Jeb Dunnuck gave it 93 points and called it seamless and incredibly elegant, which is exactly how it drinks. Classic mid-weight Napa Cab, dark fruit and cocoa with the tannin kept fine-grained. Open one now with something off the grill and lay one down. It has a decade in it.
Dark ruby with a bright purple rim. Fig, Luxardo cherry, black currant and lavender over toasty oak. Layered dark fruit, tobacco and anise on the palate, with chocolate and orange rind carrying a lengthy finish on fine, lingering tannins.
