Domaine Lemonier - Macon La Roche Vineuse - 2021

The Lemonier family has farmed this stretch of the Mâconnais for roughly two centuries, working from their base in La Roche-Vineuse. The appellation covers three communes, La Roche-Vineuse, Chevagny-lès-Chevrières and Hurigny, and is Chardonnay only, sitting southwest of Mâcon on limestone soils. This is real white Burgundy without the Meursault markup, ripe and generous rather than austere. Pour it at a dinner party when you want Burgundy pedigree without the Burgundy bill.

Vanilla, ripe tropical fruit and citrus blossom aromas from good ripeness. A forthright attack leads into a slightly honeyed mid-palate with no residual sugar, finishing fleshy and persistent.

This one has real richness to it. Reach for creamy leek soup or a mushroom risotto rather than something light and green.

The Lemonier family has passed their Mâconnais estate down for about two centuries. Mâcon-La Roche-Vineuse is Chardonnay only, covering the communes of La Roche-Vineuse, Chevagny-lès-Chevrières and Hurigny.
