DuMOL's cool-climate Syrah and the sleeper of the lineup. The 2021 Wild Mountainside comes off the Hoppe-Kelly and Limerick Lane vineyards in the Russian River Valley, fermented with about a third whole clusters and around 5% Viognier, then raised 15 months in one-third new French oak with 20% of the wine in amphora. Roughly 500 cases exist. This is Syrah for the Northern Rhône crowd: peppery, floral, savory, nothing like the jammy stuff. Grab it before the Pinot people catch on.
White and black pepper threading through violets, dark berry pastille, graphite and black olive. Deeply concentrated and savory: blackberry, chocolate, sage, menthol and gravel, with soaring aromatics and a long mineral finish.
