Fernlands - Sauvignon Blanc - 2022
$21.99
Fernlands is one of three labels from Marisco Vineyards, the Marlborough producer built by pioneer John Marris, who co-founded Wither Hills. Marisco's estate runs along the Waihopai River in the Wairau Valley. Fruit for this bottling comes from that estate, and Falstaff scored the 2022 vintage 90 points. It's classic Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc at a fair price: grapefruit, passionfruit, a green herbaceous edge. Pour it for porch happy hour or alongside anything built on fresh herbs and citrus.
Elderflower, kiwi and passionfruit on the nose, with green bell pepper, nettle and mint underneath. Juicy palate of gooseberry, grapefruit and lime, lively acidity, medium body, crisp citrus finish.
Classic matches for Sauvignon Blanc: Goat cheese, oysters, green salads, anything with fresh herbs.
Marisco Vineyards was founded by Marlborough pioneer John Marris, who planted some of the region's first vineyards in 1973 and later co-founded Wither Hills. The estate sits on ancient river shingle along the Waihopai River. The winery opened in 2010 and was named New Zealand Winery of the Year by the IWSC in 2011.
