A true small-family Napa winery. The Frisingers have farmed their Oak Knoll District property since 1981; today Karl and Rachel Frisinger run the label at around 1,000 cases a year with winemaker Grant Long, who has made every vintage since 2012. Malbec is their calling card, floral and dark-fruited in a valley obsessed with Cabernet. It sells almost entirely direct from the winery. When a bottle lands at retail, grab it.

The house Malbec style runs to violets, lavender and sage over dark plum, boysenberry and blackberry, cocoa underneath, supple grainy tannins and a spiced, intensely flavored finish.

The family's 14-acre vineyard on Dry Creek Road has sold fruit to Beringer, Cakebread, Chateau Montelena and Grgich Hills over the years. James Frisinger, a 30-year Beringer viticulture veteran, still oversees the vines, replanted in 2023 to Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Malbec.
