Julien Mary apprenticed five vintages under Nicolas Renaud of Le Clos Grillons, then leased two hectares of old-vine Grenache and Syrah near Collias, on the banks of the Gardon west of Avignon, and launched Domaine de la Goguette in late 2020. Les Pieds dans l'Eau, feet in the water, is 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah co-fermented mostly as whole clusters in concrete on native yeasts, no sulfur added during vinification, bottled unfined and unfiltered. Natural southern Rhone with focus, not funk.
Juicy, primary Grenache-Syrah fruit from the whole-cluster concrete co-ferment. Light grip, fresh acidity, and a clean, no-makeup finish.
Slight chill on it, then charcuterie, herby roast chicken, or pizza night.
Just over two hectares of old-vine Grenache and Syrah on sandy clay and limestone near Collias. Spontaneous cover crops year-round, sheep grazing the rows in winter, certified organic from the 2022 vintage.
