Holmes Wine is Jackie Moriarty's micro-label, and she is practically a neighbor. She started at Bluemont Vineyard, chased harvests around the globe, met her husband Goncalo working a crush in New Zealand, and now makes a tiny trio of Virginia wines. This 2021 red blend leans on Merlot and Cabernet Franc from Loudoun County fruit, fermented on native yeast with a light hand on oak. Small production, real story. Drink it with dinner tonight.

Dark cherry with earthy undertones. Medium bodied and supple, soft tannin, barely-there oak, and a savory, fresh finish. Low-intervention Virginia red that stays light on its feet.

Fruit comes from Williams Gap and October One vineyards in Loudoun County; the wines are made at Lost Creek. Moriarty works low-intervention: native yeast ferments and restrained oak. Two red blends and a Cabernet Franc make up the entire lineup.
