J. Moreau & Fils L'aubaine Saint-Bris 2024 Burgundy White
$32.00
Saint-Bris is Burgundy's oddball, the one appellation in the region grown to Sauvignon Blanc, in the Auxerrois near Chablis. Chablis house J. Moreau & Fils makes L'Aubaine, French for the windfall, from 20-year-old vines on clay-limestone, fermented in stainless steel with full malolactic and four months on the lees. The 2024 lands at 12.1% and bone dry, under half a gram of sugar. Sancerre freshness with a rounder middle. Pour it blind for your Chablis loyalists.
Golden hue. Lychee, blackcurrant, and exotic fruit on the nose. Luscious then tangy, with yellow-fleshed fruit, zesty lime, a ginger prickle, and a fresh mineral finish.
Oysters on the half shell, seafood platters, simple grilled fish, or as the opening aperitif.
Saint-Bris-le-Vineux is an old quarry village whose stone built parts of Auxerre and Paris, on clay-limestone near the Serein river. It is the only corner of Burgundy harvesting Sauvignon. About 15,000 bottles of L'Aubaine are made, vegan fined.
